Having designed and drawn these geometric shapes in two dimensions I then morphed the 2 dimension polygons into 3D shapes by bending, folding and sticking sections together to form these paper structures. The endless possibilities of geometry and its intriguing order and repetition are so satisfying and calming and its exciting to experiment with shapes that mathematically link.

I hope to eventually create an installation with many such structures surrounding the audience from floor to ceiling. Like a womb of geometry, softly lit, casting intricate shadows that interact with the viewer. I would like to create an almost spiritual experience that the viewer can immerse themselves into and emerge uplifted.

The geometry can be seen to hold some symbolic significance. Certain pentagonal motifs in Islamic Art hold very special significance and the pentagon ‘standing on two feet’ can be taken to symbolise the wise ones, rare men or women who have, over the ages, brought knowledge and wisdom to humanity. Through their wisdom, we have connection to a higher Divine realm, represented by the dodecahedron above.
